Stad Gent en bewoners vanuit de Werf Mobiliteit van Muide Meulestede Morgen hebben hiervoor geijverd.</p> <p>Wanneer het doorgaand verkeer verder weg van Meulestede zou rijden, kan dit de luchtkwaliteit en leefkwaliteit van de woonwijk verbeteren. Enkel lokaal verkeer zou dan de New Orleansstraat gebruiken. De straat zou minder breed kunnen gemaakt worden waardoor er ruimte vrijkomt voor groen, parkeren of andere zaken. </p> <p>De asverschuiving is echter nog niet voor morgen. Dit is een verbindende structuur in lopende en nieuwe projecten, om groene en waterzones met elkaar te verbinden, verkeer binnen en buiten te stroomlijnen en nieuwe plekken op een kwalitatieve manier in te richten.</p> <p>In het voorjaar van 2019 zijn er twee publieke terugkoppelingsmomenten. Het platform bewaakt of nieuwe initiatieven beantwoorden aan de agendapunten van Muide Meulestede Morgen.</li> <li>Eén van de werven is de Werf Mobiliteit. Onder het motto ‘meten is weten’ hield een 30-tal wijkbewoners een heuse verkeersstelling en bracht zo de verkeersstromen in kaart. Ze noteerden in totaal maar liefst 12.583 nummerplaten (eerste cijfers of letters). van bewoners, buurtorganisaties en stadsdiensten vervolledigen de initiatiefnemers en Stad Gent de aanvraag voor de conceptstudie. Bewoners gaan die aanvraag zelf verdedigen voor de jury van het stadsvernieuwingsfonds.</p> <p>De conceptstudie voor Muide-Meulestede werd in november 2014 goedgekeurd door de Vlaamse overheid. Na de wijkbeurs verzamelen de initiatiefnemers extra informatie bij kinderen, buurtorganisaties en professionelen uit de wijk. Ze kloppen aan bij Stad Gent en vragen om samen een conceptstudie aan te vragen. Een conceptstudie is een grondige oefening die voorafgaat aan een stadsvernieuwingsproject.
