You first need to be <strong>registered on the electoral list</strong>.</span></p><h2><span lang="EN-GB">What are the conditions?</span></h2><p><span lang="EN-GB">If you want to vote, you need to:</span></p><ul><li><span lang="EN-GB"></span><span lang="EN-GB">be entered in the population register of the City of Ghent on 1 August 2024</span></li><li><span lang="EN-GB"></span><span lang="EN-GB">be at least 18 years old on 13 October 2024</span></li><li><span lang="EN-GB"></span><span lang="EN-GB">not have your voting rights suspended or withdrawn on 13 October 2024</span></li></ul><p><span lang="EN-GB">If you are a non-EU citizen, you also need to:</span></p><ul><li><span lang="EN-GB"></span><span lang="EN-GB">be able to demonstrate that you have been a legal resident of Belgium for an uninterrupted period of at least 5 years, on 31 July 2024 at the latest</span></li><li><span lang="EN-GB">declare that you will abide by Belgium’s principal laws</span></li></ul><h2><span lang="EN-GB">How much does it cost?</span></h2><p><span lang="EN-GB">Registration on the electoral list is free of charge.</span></p><h2><span lang="EN-GB">What steps need to be taken?</span></h2><h3>1. You will receive a letter</span></h3><p><span lang="EN-GB">The Election Counter will examine your registration. Upon approval, you will receive a letter stating that you have been registered on the electoral list. You will receive an invitation letter about two weeks before 13 October 2024.</span></p><h3><span lang="EN-GB">3. You may cast your vote</span></h3><p><span lang="EN-GB">You <strong>may</strong> now cast your vote on election day.
