Dankzij een innovatieve technologie wordt de urine verwerkt tot ontsmettend spoelwater en tot meststoffen voor de landbouw. Het project krijgt de steun van het Gentse speerpuntenfonds. </strong></p><p>Nog tot en met eind september kunnen bezoekers hun plasje achterlaten in het circulaire toilet ‘The Place To Pee’, naast het centrale strandgebouw in de Blaarmeersen. De urine vloeit niet automatisch naar het riool, maar wordt via een innovatieve technologie, initieel ontworpen voor toepassingen in de ruimtevaart, gescheiden en verwerkt. </p> </div> <div class="quote-wrapper"> <div class="quote"> <blockquote> <div class="content"> <p> Urine laten wegspoelen is zonde. Urine bevat waardevolle stoffen die ook de waterzuivering belasten. Bovendien verbruikt het spoelen van toiletten ook veel water. Daarom bedacht Hydrohm, spin-off van de UGent, de innovatieve Uridis-technologie. Via deze zuiv­er­ing­s­tech­no­lo­gie halen we enerzijds fosfor en stikstof uit de urine en gebruiken we die als meststoffen in de landbouw. class="img-wrapper"></div><h2>Kleine boodschap, groot verschil</h2><p>De innovatieve technologie heeft tal van voordelen: waterbesparing, een hygiënischer toilet, properder afvalwater en het herwinnen van waardevolle stoffen voor toepassing in de landbouw. Om de urine te scheiden, schakelde Hydrohm het internationale bedrijf Laufen in. </p> </div> <div class="quote-wrapper"> <div class="quote"> <blockquote> <div class="content"> <p> Het winnen van fosfor en de industriële productie van stikstof voor gebruik als meststoffen in de landbouw eisen een zware tol van het milieu. Daarom hebben we de innovatieve save!-bronscheidingstechnologie ontwikkeld. Het apart opvangen van urine laat toe om die urine efficiënt te verwerken, met een veel lagere impact voor het milieu. Het toilet ziet er nog altijd hetzelfde uit voor bezoekers, maar hun kleine boodschap maakt een groot verschil voor de landbouw en de biodiversiteit in rivieren en oceanen. </p> </div> <footer> Stephanie Voets, project manager België &amp; Luxemburg Laufen </footer> </blockquote> </div> </div> <div class="paragraph paragraph--type--text paragraph--view-mode--full"> <h2>Gent Technologiehoofdstad</h2><p>Het demonstratieproject in de Blaarmeersen past in de Gentse ambitie om koploper te zijn in cleantech en circulaire economie. De Stad Gent wil cleantech, biotech, healthtech en digitech verder in hun groei ondersteunen. Hiervoor richtte het Gentse stadsbestuur een speerpuntenfonds van 4,8 miljoen euro op. Het fonds dient als hefboom voor de Gentse economie en om bovenlokale innovatiemiddelen, zowel publiek als privaat, naar Gent te halen. </p> </div> <div class="quote-wrapper"> <div class="quote"> <blockquote> <div class="content"> <p> Dit demon­stratiepro­ject toont aan dat Gent een enorme rijkdom heeft aan innovatieve bedrijven. Via het speer­punten­fonds investeren we als Stad voor maximaal 40 procent in innovatieve projecten en proeftuinen binnen onze vier speerpunten.
