Nu begint de inrichting van de ruimtes, de museumshop, de nieuwe collectieopstelling en de tijdelijke expo. Op 3 oktober 2026 gaat het museum opnieuw open. In de nieuwe vleugel zullen bezoekers terechtkunnen voor tijdelijke expo’s, lezingen, workshops en events.</strong></p><p>Stadsontwikkelingsbedrijf sogent is twee jaar geleden gestart met de bouw van de nieuwe vleugel. De komende maanden richt het museum de ruimtes in met de hulp van verschillende designers: van de balie en museumshop tot de expozalen en workshopruimtes. Ook de bestaande gebouwen krijgen nog een laatste afwerking. Het gebouw is integraal toegankelijk via een grote lift. De grote aluminium inkompoort Freeze Frame 82.2, van de hand van designstudio Unfold, is een echte blikvanger. Gesloten een poort, geopend een wandsculptuur. Buiten kan je de circulaire gevelsteen van dichtbij zien, daarna kom je binnen in de stadskamer: een grote ontvangstruimte met een vloer in terrazzo van vermalen steenpuin. Op de eerste verdieping komt een ruimte voor lezing en debat, op de tweede verdieping twee workshopruimtes en op de derde verdieping een ruimte voor tijdelijke expo's met een terras dat uitgeeft op de historische binnentuin van Hotel De Coninck. </p><p>Helemaal boven biedt de loft via grote ramen een panoramisch zicht op de stad. De technieken, lockers en het sanitair zijn ondergebracht op de ondergrondse verdieping. In de tentoonstellingszalen zijn de vides, de platformlift en de trappen verdwenen en werden de vloeren dichtgelegd. De verdiepingen zijn met elkaar verbonden via een centrale trap. Ondergronds kreeg elk toilethokje een eigen identiteit met een ander circulair materiaal.
