On Monday, 5 October, the partnership was formally renewed at Ghent City Hall in the presence of the Mayor of Kanazawa. The renewed cooperation focuses in particular on architecture and healthcare.</strong></p><div><p>Mayor Takashi Murayama traveled to Ghent with a delegation to sign the renewed agreement. The Memorandum of Understanding includes two new areas of cooperation: architecture and healthcare.</p></div><div><p>Both Ghent and Kanazawa have a strong architectural identity and face similar challenges: how can historic cities evolve and become more sustainable without losing their distinctive character? The two cities also share challenges in the field of healthcare, for instance in terms of the aging population.</p><p>By exchanging knowledge and experience, Ghent and Kanazawa can help one another develop new responses to these societal challenges. The partnership aims to foster exchanges between architects, students, educational institutions and other professionals.</p></div> </div> <div class="quote-wrapper"> <div class="quote"> <blockquote> <div class="content"> <p> More than fifty years of cooperation provide a strong foundation, but a sister city partnership must continue to evolve. Student exchanges continue to be one of its key pillars, alongside culinary, musical and cultural exchange programmes.
